Jesus Plus Nothing
JESUS PLUS NOTHING: The Simplicity of the Real Gospel
Many people believe that salvation requires more than just faith. Some are taught that to be saved they must believe and do certain works. Others live under the fear that to stay saved they must constantly maintain their salvation through performance.
But the truth of the Gospel is this: you can’t add anything to the finished work of Jesus.
When Jesus cried out on the cross, “It is finished,” He wasn’t leaving something undone for us to complete later. He had fully accomplished salvation. Nothing can be added. Nothing needs to be maintained.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
If we believe salvation requires our works to secure it, then His death was not enough. But Scripture makes it clear: Jesus is enough. When you made the decision to believe in the finished work of Jesus - you are saved and secure.
Religion always adds a “PLUS” in order to work for what's already been given.
Religion says:
Believe plus obey perfectly.
Believe plus keep all the rules.
Believe plus maintain holiness.
Believe plus strive for righteousness.
Believe plus respond.
Believe plus fight.
Believe plus you name it...
But the Gospel says:
Believe. Period.
The moment we add to Jesus, we subtract from His finished work.
The Christian life isn’t about clinging to salvation with our own strength or will/effort. It’s about resting in the truth that we are securely held in His finished work and He will finish what He began. From that place of rest, we trust Him in every area of life - and He does the transforming.
He transforms our hearts.
He shapes our desires.
He produces fruit through us.
He heals our hearts.
He sets us free.
All because of His finished work, not ours.
The real Gospel is not: Jesus plus effort, Jesus plus law, Jesus plus striving.
The real Gospel is: Jesus plus nothing.
That’s why it’s called good news. Because it’s done. Because He did it all.
